Rough River is a solid, all-around fishery: crappie on the brush and creek channels, largemouth bass in the coves and timber, a strong white bass run in spring, and plenty of catfish and bluegill for everyone else. A Kentucky fishing license is required. The lake’s many embayments make it easy to find quiet, productive water.
Rough River Dam State Resort Park
Rough River Dam State Resort Park is the centerpiece, with a lodge, cottages, a campground, a 9-hole golf course, a marina, a swimming beach and – unusually – a lighted airstrip for fly-in visitors. The Corps of Engineers adds more campgrounds and ramps. It’s a complete, affordable lake-resort weekend popular with families from Louisville, Elizabethtown and Owensboro, with boating, fishing and swimming all in one place.
